Meet Justin J. Atkins

Justin Atkins, DNP, APRN-Rx, PMHNP-BC, is a board-certified Psychiatric Mental Health Nurse Practitioner who provides compassionate, patient-centered, and trauma-informed psychiatric care for children, adolescents, adults, and families.

Dr. Atkins founded his practice to create a setting where patients feel genuinely heard and supported, while also receiving care that is grounded in current, evidence-based psychiatric practice. He values thoughtful evaluation, collaboration, and individualized treatment, taking the time to integrate clinical expertise with the best available research. His goal is to provide a calm, welcoming space where individuals and families feel informed, empowered, and confident in their care.

Dr. Justin Atkins holds a Doctor of Nursing Practice degree and is licensed as an Advanced Practice Registered Nurse with prescriptive authority in Hawai‘i, and is a Board-certified Psychiatric Mental Health Nurse Practitioner, who is committed to helping individuals and families feel heard, respected, and supported. He works collaboratively with patients to develop treatment plans that align with their goals, values, and lived experiences.

A proud military veteran, Dr. Atkins served as a combat medic in the U.S. Army, providing medical care in high-stress and unpredictable environments. These experiences shaped his calm, steady approach and deep respect for the trust patients place in their providers. After completing his military service, he worked as an emergency room nurse at The Queen’s Medical Center – Punchbowl, where he gained extensive experience in crisis intervention, rapid assessment, and supporting individuals and families during some of their most vulnerable moments.

In his clinical work, Justin takes time to understand each person’s story and tailors care to fit developmental needs and family dynamics. He provides comprehensive psychiatric evaluation and thoughtful medication management when appropriate, with a focus on conditions such as anxiety disorders, depressive disorders, ADHD, mood disorders, and trauma-related concerns. His approach emphasizes collaboration, education, and helping patients feel confident and informed in their care.

Dr. Atkins earned his Doctor of Nursing Practice with high honors from Chaminade University and his Bachelor of Science in Nursing from the University of Hawai‘i at Mānoa. He is committed to ongoing learning and evidence-based practice, while also recognizing the importance of empathy, connection, and cultural awareness in mental health treatment.

Dr. Atkins created his practice to provide collaborative, individualized psychiatric care grounded in evidence-based treatment. Drawing from his background in military medicine, emergency care, and psychiatric practice, he emphasizes thoughtful assessment, shared decision-making, and the integration of current research into clinical care. His practice is designed to support patients and families in feeling supported, informed, and actively involved in their treatment

Outside of his practice, Justin enjoys traveling, spending time with family and friends, exploring new cuisines, and staying active. He is passionate about giving back to the community and is grateful for the opportunity to support individuals and families as they work toward greater balance, resilience, and overall well-being.
